The “Don’t talk about politics | I don’t engage with social issues” squad — on mastodon and in life in general — are definitely complicit with all of this, by the way.

@ErickaSimone 100%
People need to start having difficult conversations with their friends and families. Don't just "let things slide".

@stefan @ErickaSimone I regret to share that, in my case, this has resulted in blowing up my relationship with my younger brother (we’ve not talked in 3 years) and heavily straining my relationship w/ my parents.
Sometimes it just doesn’t work, & I empathize w/ anyone who’s similarly tried & mostly just damaged or destroyed their family relationships (which is all I ended up with).
-
@jeffbyrnes Oh absolutely. This is by no means easy, especially in cases where it's in-laws, or ties with children/grand-children can be severed.
I guess I don't really have an easy answer here, and I am very sorry to hear about your situation, and I really do hope your family comes around.
For better or worse, once they see where we're headed over the next few months/years, the chances of that happening might actually be fairly high.
Hang in there!

@ErickaSimone “Historians have a word for Germans who joined the Nazi party, not because they hated Jews, but out of a hope for restored patriotism, or a sense of economic anxiety, or a hope to preserve their religious values, or dislike of their opponents, or raw political opportunism, or convenience, or ignorance, or greed.
That word is "Nazi." Nobody cares about their motives anymore."

@stefan @ErickaSimone My mom was literally on her deathbed, and I was lecturing her about her attitude on her nurses talking Spanish. I don't shy away from those conversations.

@ang6666 @ErickaSimone Respect!

@stefan @ErickaSimone I think people must ask ownself something: "why we live here? is our universe is simulation? why lifes are repeat ownself?" and sure people must start to research how psychologists scrapping the data and using it for psycho research and indoctrination, upbringing

@bazylevnik0 @ErickaSimone "why we live here"
Ahh, moving abroad can be super expensive, both financially and emotionally.
I think those of us who have the capacity have to keep up the fight for those with no easy options of running away.
But we all have different situations, and right now everything is too uncertain to make any plans. We'll see.
