What are some good examples of people putting in extra effort where some might see "AI" as the solution?
Things I've seen:
- people narrating their blogs instead of using text-to-speech (would love to see more examples, feel free to post links!)
- folks using the Alt4Me and Alt4You hashtags to request and provide missing image descriptions, respectively -
@stefan There’s an implication in your post, which I find offensive. It’s a very privileged position to say I only rely on well crafted human written perfect alt text! I don’t know that that is what you’re saying but some people are saying that.

@Lottie Are you referring to https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/people-powered-analogue-technology/? That was a quote from https://www.applevis.com/forum/other-apple-chat/alt-text-adventures-ai-vs-human-descriptions
Unless I'm missing something?
-
@stefan I’m referring to the toots that I replied to where one of the hashtags includes the word lazy!
-
Ohh, of course, #AskALibrarian. Added that to https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/people-powered-analogue-technology/
-
@Lottie Ohhh, my bad, got it. No, not at all! It's a hashtag I've seen people use when asking questions online.
Sorry about the confusion!
-
@stefan Do you think people should narrate their own blogs? Do you think people shouldn’t use AI to generate Alta text descriptions? Those are the things I find offensive!
-
@Lottie Right. No, that's not what I'm arguing at all, just giving people some ideas. I completely understand that not everyone has the means or the ability to do that. (I mentioned the Alt4Me hashtag, for example.)
My larger point here is that we can all work together, each according to their needs and abilities.
I really appreciate the feedback, I'll try to update the article and clarify that.

While not quite one technology, what about Vigilante audio description? https://socialaudiodescription.com/vigilante-audio-description/ @stefan

@weirdwriter Definitely worth mentioning, I'll update the article later when I'm back at my computer. Thank you for sharing this!
