With all these AI companies pushing for computers making decisions, I keep thinking over and over about the book "Computer Power and Human Reason" by Joseph Weizenbaum, the creator of Eliza.
He was absolutely disgusted with the psychologists who thought computers could (or should!) replace people in the therapeutic setting, and the book was a rebuttal to the very idea. The book was written in 1976 and having read it only a few years ago, everything he said then is still completely true today. -
@amy When I re-read it earlier this year, I strongly felt that Weizenbaum had inadvertently invented the genre of horror non-fiction.
