It's almost certain by now that tomorrow, 2024-12-23, the #Fedora council will announce the "decision to migrate Fedoras git forge to #forgejo and sunset #pagure." That's a HUGE win for @forgejo IMHO.

With my Fedora Council hat on, I'd say it is a win for Fedora.
It has been a long open discussion in the project whether tools to make the project should be considered part of it. This discussion is far from done, but I am glad that we are recognising the value of FOSS and collaboration on the development tools, not just the content being developed.

@bookwar I hope there will be some sort of meeting between Fedora people and @forgejo folks at #FOSDEM to discuss on cooperation and how to move forward together Maybe also some people from @Codeberg who can tell you more about running Forgejo at scale and who might learn something from the Fedora experiences too!

@jwildeboer this post gave me the motivation to look into Forgejo... and what can I say... 30 Minutes later it was running on my Raspi and I already have 3 active repos on it...
And coding (admittedly with a lot of LMM help!) is just a hobby / learning vehicle for me, not a job. Although I do create tools and automations for my job.
Forgejo feels exactly right, I never really wanted to have my stuff on one of the commercial platforms.

@bookwar
We'll definitely be at FOSDEM again, and it was a pleasure to talk to some of you last year. Maybe we can schedule a meetup in one of the evenings, talking in depths about Forgejo and collaboration opportunities.We can also schedule an online meeting before or after.
Let us know. ~f

@Codeberg @bookwar I guess a lot of the possible topics for discussion and collaboration are captured in the replies to the user stories that were part of the decision making process: https://fedora-arc.readthedocs.io/en/latest/dist-git-comparison/forgejo.html

@jwildeboer Do you have a link to a discussion of why they decided to reconsider Pagure?

@mpjgregoire You can find a lot more background and links at https://fedoramagazine.org/fedora-moves-towards-forgejo-a-unified-decision/ especially the "How we got here" part that details the quest back to its beginnings in 2020.
