Tesla sales sharply down.

@jon wife and I had been considering an EV. Some years ago we were seriously looking at a Tesla because it seemed the best on the market (with the charging infrastructure). Then Elon did Elon things, and we were gonna buy an E Tron this year. Then Trump and Elon did Trump and Elon things and now buying an EV seems scary.

@jon thought about buying one, but at this point, no fucking way

No cars for me. Though if I had the money, maybe I'd get an old 80's Fiat 600 in good shape and convert it to an EV.

@erikriffle @jon I know a few people who had the E-Tron SUV and they were appalled by the bad range and slow charging speeds. The E-Tron GT seems to be a lot better but that's basically the Taycan in different clothes.

@jon Tesla owner (well, lease anyway) perspective here. Tesla is like apple where it has a UX that is different enough from the competition to make you wonder why the competition is doing such ass-backwards things. Name one other brand available in the EU that has a functioning smartphone companion app or that has removed ridiculous "start" buttons from EVs.
Elon has lost his marbles but the products still don't have good competition.

@jon after a string of BMWs, I bought a Tesla Model 3 in 2021 when it was apparent Musk was unhinged but not yet that he is also a Nazi.
I would certainly buy another one if it were not for Musk, the legacy car-maker dinosaurs are so far behind and falling further behind every year itโs not even funny. Sadly my next car will have to be an inferior one because I wonโt drive a swasticar.

@jon Same opinion.
Minimalism is fine, but some elements should to allow actions instinctively that keep our eyes on the road, like turn signals, gears, windswipers, etc, basically "drive", that's what's all about.
As people says "The extremes are bad, for anything". The better thing of life is in the wide-range tones there're in middle of.
About the poll, my car still have kilometres to ride ahead, anyway I keep an eye on BYD and KIA. I think there's life beyond Tesla despite the unexpected Musk actions, in the Jack Sparrow style.

I guess you have not tried the many EVs out there.
I have a Polestar. If you do not want a start button, that is one. I know that applies to others as well.
The app works fine for my Polestar and the Ford I have as well. Audi as well.
I am a UI guy and for me Tesla does too many things strangely. There is a lot of reinventing the wheel and when it comes to cars (and software), I think one should be careful when doing that as to not break things.

Got a 2019 E-tron. Range is fine. Charge speed is great, IMHO. Range has expanded since then

@jon yes, because :
- The supercharger network (without is a jungle of witch card to use on this kind of charger if it's work)
- no obligation of maintenance (others brands continue to keep mandatory maintenance on its concession every years or two, for nothing, except keep the cash flow). You just have to keep an eye on brake fluid on Tesla.But I hate the fact that Tesla is associated to musk.
I'm a splitted mind on this subject.
