Just discovered that @thunderbird mail filters won't actually filter anything on any folder other than Inbox (even subfolders inside Inbox).
So all my "Delete after 1 week/month/year" rules weren't deleting anything, causing my mail to balloon out of control.
Does anyone know a way to get #Thunderbird to filter stuff in folders? I see old threads about extensions and arcane about:config settings, but nothing that seems to apply to current TB.
1000 fedipoints for the first correct answer!

@Blort I have webmail that filters into folders. In Thunderbird, under 'Folder Properties', I have set retention policies, for example, I have a folder named '7-days'
Retention policy = Delete messages more than 7 days old.
That works for me, is that any use to you?

@Blort I wonder if this could be possible with Nostalgy++? They are currently testing a version compatible with 128: https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-CA/thunderbird/addon/nostalgy_ng/?src=search

It might be able to help with moving emails to the trash, but what I'm really after is not just automatic deleting of emails.
I'm after being able to use mail filters in my folders.
That would let me do many, many things beyond just deleting. For me personally, I set up filters to change tags, to forward when they're marked todo without being done for a certain length of time, to mark read/unread and more.
Filters are/were the #1 feature of #Thunderbird over webmail for me.

Thanks! That does help with deleting old emails from certain folders. I'm still trying to find how to apply mail filters to folders though for the wide range of other automated filters I set up that aren't currently working, such as forwarding emails from subfolders that are marked as important and todo if they haven't been replied to after X days.
Filters are such a wonderfully flexible tool... or they would be without a 1 folder limitation!
