Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced laptop for Linux *with a decent trackpad* ? Should I just use an old intel MBAir ? Or an old Thinkpad with the nipple? I’m not about to purchase something immediately, just interested in thoughts after being very dissatisfied with a Starlite.

@acf It might be worth watching some of the video reviews done by @thelinuxEXP.
I think @codemonkeymike might have installed Linux on an Apple laptop recently (I hope I have thst right!) so might have some advice too.

@simon @acf @thelinuxEXP thanks for the tag.
If its a touchbar intel mac, forget it. The OLDER intel macs work. But even they feel a little out of place using linux on them because of the keyboard keys (and lack of keys)
Thinkpads are always a good choice, and honestly a gen 6 thinkpad x1 carbon was probably one of my fav laptops of all time.
I'm currently in love with my Framework 13, but i know they aren't "cheap"
Happy to share what I know about machines i've owned and played with

@codemonkeymike @simon @acf @thelinuxEXP is it an Intel or ryzen machine? Are there and issues with running Linux, like Bluetooth or WiFi or sound issues?
-
@nowherefast @simon @acf @thelinuxEXP you can get either intel or amd. I have the AMD Ryzen and love it. Everything works out of the box.. even the fingerprint reader!

@codemonkeymike @simon @thelinuxEXP thanks! I’m primarily a Mac user and really just dipping my toe in the idea of a desktop Linux machine (rather than a VPS) so I don’t want to spend *too* much money. I have a Pi5 to play with and maybe that’s fine ️ I tried a little Starlite 11” which was lovely apart from the trackpad... where apple have really just spoiled me I might investigate that specific thinkpad model on eBay
