Should we have ActivityPub's big relay era? I think about what distinguishes Bluesky and ActivityPub.
1. Trust and Safety - ActivityPub and Mastodon need to do more here.
2. A big relay - The distinguishing feature of BS is that every one is on a common relay, even if you are hosting your own data.This big relay helps to solve a lot of discoverability challenges that plague ActivityPub ecosystems.

What if rather than the Mastodon core team running the central instance they ran a central relay and it was easier to start small instances that were easier to moderate?

I would definitely be in favor of that.I'm starting to force myself to use Bluesky more even though the format is noticeably more clunky (no editing posts? GD!).
BS's stewards have placed more (any?) priority on making their overall social network more attractive to people who bounce from here because of targeted harrasment. -
