I'm toying with the idea of taking my iPad out and doing some work from a Coffee Shop...

@andycarolan eat the cake instead

@andycarolan It's the "still not a desktop OS" that made me give up on using my iPad for anything other than browsing the web - and it's the 12.9" Pro.
Once Adobe CC has better support for Windows on ARM I'll be getting a Surface Pro.

@Ric LMAO! Sounds like a plan!
-
@barrysampson Agreed. As much as Apple pushes it as a creation device, it's still very much one of consumption for me. It does double as a nice second screen for my Mac though lol @Ric
-
@andycarolan True, I do use mine as a second display if I'm travelling.
At home I've got a Huion Kamvas Pro 16 that gets used as second display a lot. Not sure I'd take it to a coffee shop though!
-
@barrysampson I imagine the Pro 16 is a bit on the big side lol @Ric
-
@andycarolan It's definitely too big for coffee shop working!

@andycarolan @Ric Itβs irritating that Apple puts an M4 chip in the top of the line iPad, but keeps the power locked down by a restrictive OS.

@andycarolan I bring it along to the coffee shop most mornings, but mainly just for browsing, emails and of course Mastodon. I use an old Apple magic USB keyboard and that extends its usability, to a point. But when I have more work to do, it stays home, and the MacBook Air comes along.

@Jgmeadows Isn't it just! @Ric

@Jgmeadows I find the iPad experience all too casual for anything serious. It's a nice device for content consumption however.

@andycarolan I do have fun using the Procreate drawing app on it (not that I am any good) but for work like creating a presentation deck, or creating a document of non-trivial complexity, one feels the restrictions very quickly.

@Jgmeadows Procreate is lovely! I occasionally use it for sketching... perhaps I need to revisit that and get some use out of it

@andycarolan @barrysampson @Ric Yeah, but, ya know, I suspect that there are quite a few of us out here that find it a perfectly usable device. Today I used Affinity Publisher to layout an annual report. Yesterday I finished off a promotional postcard for a client using Affinity Designer. Last week, icons. And between those projects I've used Textastic for coding on 3 different web projects. Later this week it's back to Publisher for a newsletter. βοΈ

@dennyhenke @barrysampson @Ric Iironically, Iβm sitting in a coffee shop right now, trying to get use out of my iPad haha. Iβm sure itβs a βmeβ problem rather than that of the iPad itself. I should probably get a keyboard folio, or at least a Bluetooth keeb for this. Sounds like you are making great use of your iPad

@Ric @dennyhenke @barrysampson No cake, but I did have a rather awesome vegan sausage roll and an oat flat white! Still sitting here extending my visit with a sparkling water.
The sea here at Sherringham is a bit splashy though!

@andycarolan @barrysampson @Ric A hardware keyboard is a must for me to actually get anything done. No way I could do anything with the onscreen keyboard beyond the most basic stuff.
Even better, a keyboard/trackpad. I still use touch with that combination but it's great to have the option for both touch and trackpad.

@dennyhenke Same really... I was just replying to messages and emails... anything more than that, and I would need a hardware keeb. I *could* take my Macβs keyboard with me I guess. @barrysampson @Ric

@andycarolan I use a Logitech MX mini which supports three devices and is paired with my PC, my MBP and my iPad. I don't use their crappy AI software though.
