another networking poll: how confident do you feel that you understand how UDP works?

also i’m curious: how would you say UDP works? especially interested in answers from people who said they're unsure / confused
(as usual please no arguing or telling other people they're wrong, I'm just curious about people's different impressions)

@b0rk the way I think about it is that tcp has a mechanism that allows downstream receivers to send an ACK to say they got a particular packet. And it also keeps track of the expected packet ordering so it can ensure that things arrive in the right order. I don't know much about UDP except that it doesn't do those things by design. It's designed to prioritize low latency and thus will drop packets if they can't be processed in a certain window of time.
