I keep getting contacted by people who join Mastodon, send many many clumsy but handwritten-looking romantic overtures to many many *entirely random* female-presenting people, then get banned off m.s within 8 hours.

I keep getting contacted by people who join Mastodon, send many many clumsy but handwritten-looking romantic overtures to many many *entirely random* female-presenting people, then get banned off m.s within 8 hours. Is this an actual Instagram dating method they're trying to adapt here? Am I being scammed/catfished? One I talked to offhandedly for like a day and he got banned twice without ever moving to phase 2 of the scam, if it was a scam

@mcc it is mysterious to me that you’re being plagued by them and I haven’t been bothered by a single one, because I’m only a few places behind you on the “mastodon users with she/her in bio” list by follow count

but maybe they’re only targeting .social

@0xabad1dea they're *all* on social, maybe they're picking targets through the local feed. Another sign of inauthentic activity. Who the hell looks at the local feed
