Hoping I have time today to melt paraffin + beeswax and dip a chain to try out chain waxing. I need to replace the chain anyway (37 years old, LOL) so figured we'd give waxing a try. #BikeTooter

@ai6yr Ben. 37 years? Come on now! pretty solid chance the cassette or freewheel has worn to the chain and will need to be replaced too because it won't mesh properly with the fresh chain, in case you start having issues afterwards. Good luck!
-
@sam Well, lots of riding in years 1-3, and year 37, so I am thinking I will be okay. Measuring the chain, it is not stretched beyond what you would be worried about.
-
@ai6yr good luck! I'm still laughing (and shocked)!
-
@sam I mean, I didn't scrub and wash the chain until a month ago when someone here suggested the layers of grime on it were NOT recommended (may have hosed it off at some point)... so... ðĪŠ

@sam This was AFTER I finally replaced the tire when the tube starting to poke out from aged rubber... so glad the tire did not blow out when I was going downhill. LOL. I am learning a lot here on the Fediverse. Also, helmet was way too old too.

@ai6yr ooh yah, jokes about a chain being old aside, if it's old it's just old and whatever if it keeps working for you, you may just have a bit more maintenance to do when you finally do replace it. The tire/helmet thing is a bit more scary, glad it didn't blow on you!
