I watched a YouTube video in Japanese (English subtitles) on making this yummy-looking rice dish in the rice cooker, where you sauté the ingredients and then set them in the cooker, layer on the rice, and cook it on the normal rice mode. As if you're just making rice but you snuck in bonus items.
In typical fashion I neglected to check our pantry before I got started so mine looks nothing like the video, but I'm optimistic!

Rice is GOOD!
I put in too much chili crisp and not enough water but it's definitely tasty and edible and I'll make notes for next time.
-
@hollie Sounds interesting. I usually just put rice in my rice cooker, although I know it’s capable of far more. Do you have a link to the YouTube video?
-
@andycarolan Yes! It's here:
It has eggs but you don't need to add those! I just used veggies, but I didn't add enough water to make up for the potatoes needing to steam.
I also had no oyster sauce so I just used two huge tablespoons of chili crisp and that was GOOOOOD.
-
@hollie Awesome, thanks for that! I will check that out later, thanks!
Oh yes, I will leave the eggs out. Sometimes, I add Tofu instead.
Oddly, I discovered Vegan Oyster Sauce at my local Korean supermarket at the weekend. No idea what it's made from lol.
-
@andycarolan I bet it's good though! All the vegan sauces I've tried are so good, even the unlikely ones.
-
@hollie Vegan sauces have definitely improved a lot! Might give it a try someday.
