So....how do you like your Fediverse?
Completely controlled by a single company just like every other social media?
That's where we're at and nobody seems to care...
Eugen already silences anyone talking about genocide from mastodon.social
Who's to say he won't add malicious code to stop everyone from seeing what he doesn't agree with?
Everyone keeps saying "Mastodon is great", "Mastodon is awesome!"
No..."Fediverse is great", and "Fediverse is awesome!"
Creating corporate overlords gets us in the exact boat we're in with harassment galore and no moderation tools in sight because they can afford to ignore user demands if everyone's using their software anyway...
-
@BeAware I think a big part of the problem as you mentioned before I think is the fact that the Mastodon app doesn't clarify enough that the Fediverse isn't JUST Mastodon, the trouble of having a flagship instance named after the software itself I guess. I am forever grateful that the software exists, I just wish it was more like Discord in the sense of "here is the software, go find servers you like, make friends, have fun!"
-
@pixelworld_ai well, yeah, I wish they'd promote other servers. However, that's literally their strategy...
If you thought that, by now, they couldn't have changed the phrasing or add these things and haven't purposefully ommited them...then we need to have a discussion about self interest.

@BeAware to play devil's advocate a little bit, I am assuming funding from the .social largely or partially goes to development of the platform, in which case it is good for that reason because I want it to continue to improve, but they could still be a little more clear on how the Fediverse works for transparency sake. I think people would still naturally gravitate towards the biggest instance in hopes of having the most publicity.

@pixelworld_ai but the funding goes to Mastodon. Not ActivityPub, which they keep neglecting because they don't want to do what other people want, they only want to do things that benefits them...
