Ok so I've been noticing a trend that's extremely weird. Basically goes like this:
I want to know how to do X with tool Y. I then find an article whose headline seems to indicate that it will answer this question.
But the article then spends a good chunk of text at the beginning to introduce tool Y. However, the topic isn't really something you'd look up if you don't know what tool Y is and what it can do.
Imagine it like this imagine you have a Mercedes A-Class and you notice a weird button labeled "C/S" so you google "what does the C/S button do in a a class" and the article that you click on is titled "The C/S button in A-Classes explained" but it spends the first 5 minutes introducing who Mercedes are, what an A-Class is, and maybe something about who the A-Class is aimed at.
But like... why? The likelihood that you searched for this button without knowing what an A-Class is is essentially 0.
And I see this SO OFTEN in tech articles that I have to make a post about it seriously wtf? -

@ThunderComplex filler. More fluff on the page means you'll spend more time on the page, which means you might click on another page while you're there.
It's psychological bullshittery that pisses me off too!

@ThunderComplex they're hoping that you don't click off and spend more time looking for the information you're seeking, but specifically on their website.

@ThunderComplex PS. It's one of the main reasons I don't read long articles unless there's a specific point being made.
Skip the fluff and give me the information I came here for, dammit!🤬

ThunderComplex (Silly Mode)replied to BeAware :fediverse: last edited by@BeAware can't get the information in a clear concise way anymore. YouTube video: intro, filler, bullshit, maybe crappy mic, 6 minutes later you realize this isn't helpful
Written article: fluff bullshittery -

@ThunderComplex @BeAware Glad I'm not the only one who finds this tactic annoying.
