I learned (this is 2009 data) that only 30% of neighborhood kids go to the local high school. The rest go to other Saint Paul schools.
Huh, neighbor, I wonder why the local school is having a rough go of it. Could it be that all of the economically privileged students have been sent to other schools? And then the less economically sounds students were taken out of their neighborhood schools and placed at ours?
Could that be it? Could it be the resources and support given to other schools? Hmm?
It's only been a week, but my kids like their teachers at our neighborhood school. The teachers are keen to teach. If the school had the resources of the other schools, I think the students could succeed.
Fuckin white flight. I hate it.
