Does the Fediverse give you hope?
-
Based we are all doomed
-
That's why I said vote with your money
-
It gives me hope yeah, alot of my family and coworkers are extremely conservative and it's given me hope that they're not the default for cis people. I've since gotten away from alot of them and met irl friends who're more accepting but the presence of people online who didn't begrudgingly tolerate me before then has given me hope and the courage I would need to advocate for myself and not accept the bare minimum

Yeah ok, but... I really don't think the billionaries in charge care if you vote with your little salaried forced job income... I think if you look at the perspective of having millions or billions, people's actions don't matter, like at all.

Unhealthy because there is no feeling of hope? I'm OK with that actually. Life is still alright. But I don't think we actually can change anything important.
Yes, there are ebbs and flows. Sometimes bad people are in charge, sometimes good. And sure, sometimes some very charismatic person is also a good one, and manages to make things a bit better.
But the overall trend is not towards humanity being free of debt slavery, or wars, or greed and power.

Frankly, it’s stressing me out. The non-stop barrage of Trump, Musk and other bullshit is just a bit too much on here. I get how the platform in generally is very left leaning, but it really does feel like the sky is falling every five minutes, you know?
-
I'm just glad to be part of a community that seems to have some shread of human decency left. That's not all too common here in the States these days.
-
Honestly, it's just a matter of time before they make more Luigis snap. Hopefully they'll be an organized way to oust them all before the guillotines and the dining sets start coming out.

Reddit is more diverse. The same kind of cynicism exists there too but it's dilluted by all the other content so it's easier to ignore. Here that is less the case as majority of the content is news articles.
It depends how you use these platforms. On reddit, I go to a few somewhat niche subs (via a direct bookmark link) so I don't see any content outside of those specific niches.
On lemmy, I use this account for news/global politics, but I also have an alt where I only access content from subscribed communities and there is minimal politics.

The Fediverse is a sewer of antisemitism, and antisemitic censorship
How so? And what do you define as "antisemitism" and "antisemitic censorship"?
-
Lemmy is very harsh to most people. People that think liberal means the Democrats.
It's not just Lemmy. I was thinking more like Mastodon. Tbh I haven't tried frendica, but I haven't heard of anyone actually using it.
At least pixelfed defaults you to the main instance so you don't have to think about it if you don't want to. Although the official android app hasn't worked for me in ages.

Lemmy, the Fediverse, and open source in general too. Every time bullshit happens I find myself more and more replacing closed systems with community-developed and community-run systems. It’s not only the giving back/contributing/being part, and the openness, it’s also that this cannot be taken away so easily. Taken by buying the company, a software update, agreement change or the fact that someday you may not be able to pay your monthly fee and loose access to all your stuff.

No one is forcing you to be around all of us "conservatives" who suck.
-
I'm not in the US (thinking of you guys everyday), but when I found myself feeling depressed by the direction of big tech, I realized that open-source and the Fediverse was the healthy and exciting way forwards. It was the one thing that felt like I remember the internet feeling like in the late 90s.
I think you are spot on. It is the only way that democracy can survive in tech. -

As drag said, the technology is great. Drag believes in the mission of the Fediverse. It's just that a lot of it is infested with power mods and transphobes. If we could get rid of that sort of person, this space would be much better, wouldn't you agree?

If I were surrounded by a bunch of people I thought were horrible, I would leave. I hear there are other Fediverse servers out there.
If you're into masochism, you should really get people's consent first.

If it's true that you avoid people you don't like, then perhaps drag was wrong to think you didn't like drag. Drag has in the past advised you to block drag, and it seems you've decided not to. Drag is flattered. Perhaps you've decided to respect the "they" part of your child's she/they pronouns. If so, you're very welcome for the push. Drag has always believed that hearing the experiences of trans people makes others more likely to respect differences in gender presentation.

Yes. But I'm worried about Big Tech hijacking ActuvityPub and that they enforce the end of net neutrality. EU regulations and investments is our only hope right now.
