Just learned that Finale software is being discontinued. I am feeling sad and disappointed and shocked and a little bit anxious about this. I’ve been using it since 1995 and have always loved it. Is anyone else disturbed about this? Do any Finale users also use Dorico? I could use some moral support right now.

@shaulawalko Sibelius didn’t last long since I could not afford it when Avid switched to a subscription fee. (I was unemployed at the time.)
I started using MuseScore and was so impressed with the ease-of-use and deep features.
To this day, I am still using MuseScore including for commercial sheet music.
I’m curious about Dorico, but have heard that its EOU is not so great. They have a way to test-drive it if you want to. I don’t know how long the “deal” is running for.

@shaulawalko It is a sad day and I can understand how scary it must be. I have heard from a few friends in the same situation as you.
I used Finale for many years. Switched to Sibelius when I noticed that MakeMusic had stalled on development and switched to supporting NotePad (I might have that name wrong).

It looks like MuseScore is taking steps to make a smooth transition from Finale to MuseScore, too.

@shaulawalko If I'm honest, I found score entry in MuseScore to be easier than Finale from day one. (Since I took a brief shift to Sibelius, I may have been mixing my memories...)
Did you see a specific campaign to win over Finale users? -
