@thedansimonson there’s also the assume that independents are logical and consistent.
The most insightful thing I saw was Jamelle Bouise on TikTok pointing out that they’re literally the least engaged voters. “I need more specifics” and “I’m an independent” sounds much better than, “I haven’t been paying attention”
Also “I’m an independent” sounds like you’re smart, even though you really vote a particular way, or you don’t want to say how you vote
