I want to mount a hard drive in my “server” but it only has one hard drive sled. I have an idea on how to bootleg together a solution but I’m worried it’s gonna be loud. Anyone know of a good way to quiet a hard drive?
-
@fujiwara noise/vibration dampening pads for the screw points goes a long way to quieting it down. only thing that could work better is to removing the spinning rust entirely
-
@sammycola Hmm… maybe like some rubber washers it can sit on?
-
@fujiwara something i’ve seen before is using some rando hdd sled, and mounting it with velcro, extra layer of vibration prevention, just make sure it’s not dangling on the side or upside down. (completely lost the plot of not actually having a mounting point).
-
@sammycola Don’t worry, I’m making my own mounting point by taking a hard drive cage out of a broken case and screwing it in place :ChikaDetective2: I’ll probably try some rubber gaskets first though
-
@fujiwara yeah rubber gaskets for vibration and velcro for mounting the sled is probs the way to go. velcro especially works for ssd’s due to how light they are.
-
@sammycola I wish I had an 8TB SSD laying around :zerotwoevillaugh: I think the rubber gasket will probably be enough but I found a rubber mousepad at work that I might put under it…
