aaaaaaaaaaaaaand there it is
-
@lashman When Bluesky was first released, there was a clip from a lead developer who said "our goal is to be the best platform of it's type to be the go-to destination."
It was an interesting example of how pride and professionalism in one's work can lead to a toxic and pointless competition to be #1.
-
@lashman in other words, federation no longer a priority.
-
@maikel definitely not
-
@lashman more should be said about the fact a subscription model means dropping the entire premise of a federated service.
I think that's the biggest issue and loss of unique-selling point of a brand ever.
Is like,
> now we're charging you for the music you play in your car...by the way we took away the wheels and you can no longer go to places with it. ENJOY!!
-
@lashman One problem there…
If AT Proto is really open, such that anyone can write clients and servers, they don’t really have the power to deny “features” to anyone.(Note: big “if”)
-
@lashman and we know that will work and they will make lots of money and have lots of users because it's the same shit discord has done and people love that shit.
-
@vascorsd unfortunately, yes :sadness:
-
@[email protected] Now that one is real?
-
@Legion495 yes, of course
-
@lashman
Providing a Platform for thousands or even millions of customers is expensive, and the money has to come from somewhere.
The content filtering and policing required by law in most countries alone eats money like a hungry hungry hippo!They either have to push ads, sell user data or have paid accounts (or all 3 like X/Twitter does).
