BrowserPub: A browser for debugging #ActivityPub and the 鈦俧ediverse

Polls are not a Mastodon-specific feature, they can be expressed well in standard ActivityPub, which means standards-based apps like BrowserPub can render them
Here is a recent poll example from @evan

@[email protected] Seems to not work with instances enforcing signed fetches.

@privateger can you provide a sample url?
it does do signing under the hood when it detects it's needed, like threads or gotosocial

@js @silverpill probably the bigger question is whether you want contributors.
Also, do you route requests through the b.s server if the remote server uses authorized fetch?

1. not sure yet - it's a passion project and still very early days (e.g. it does jsonld validation under the hood but not exposed in the UI yet)
2. yes (try a federated threads profile or post url, or gotosocial)

@[email protected] You can't do signing depending on instance software, it's also a setting that can be set in instance options. Just do it by default, not really much reason not to do so.
Use my profile URL.

ok just pushed a tweak to my detection to handle your case - should be all set:

ah, this is a nice test case - found a few properties I haven't come across before, and could probably render a bit better

@js it is going to sound very fake to say this but this project was at the top of my list for ActivityPub hacks to do. It is so extremely necessary. I am very excited about this work!

@js agreeing with @privateger here that detection is futile. you'll have to keep track of every single fedi instance software that exists or will exist just to make it work. the tool can't fetch my profile, for example
and given this is intended to be a "debugging" tool, waiting until software gets allowlisted to work properly really detracts from the usability of it -

@js @silverpill these threads collections are making me mad.
-
@by_caballero @js this seems like a really good testing tool.

thanks for the heads up, it should be working now: https://browser.pub/@[email protected]-t.work

thanks! send me any url or input you think it should be handling and I'll take a look
also if you see any weird rendering issues in the "visual" view
more tooltips and validations/recommendations are coming

> everything here is powered by ActivityPub, no server-specific APIs
Please don't waver from this! It's so cool.

@js what about objects with type Collection or OrderedCollection that aren't well known?
-
John Spurlockreplied to Evan Prodromou last edited by
yes pretty limited at the moment. they do expose following/follower collection _counts_, but do not enumerate members
I would love to see a true 'replies' collection from them someday
on the bright side they do support inReplyTo, which I had not heard anyone mention before
