I'm not mad about hearing the Audre Lorde quotation over and over, but can we talk about self-care without using the airplane mask metaphor?

Maybe I don't like it bc even if we've been on a plane, most of us have never had to use the masks, so it's a *hypothetical* metaphor vs. one we've physically experienced.
Maybe it's just so cliché that it irritates my writer self.
Maybe it's just... boring.

So. Can I hear your best/silliest/new metaphors for seeing to your own essential needs first?
I'll start. You must wash your own hands before you wash your baby's hands after they go potty, because you should pick them up with clean hands.

Side note, writer's rule: your metaphor should be highly practical/relatable (ie something almost everyone has experienced directly) or it should be entertaining/funny. Or truly beautiful and inspiring/revelatory in some meaningful way. Otherwise, you don't need a metaphor. We get it.
