Though I know that Facebook is in many ways a slime pit, I retain a presence there, primarily to connect with a circle of family members I can't easily connect with otherwise — and because I oversee a DNA genealogical research group.

Today I posted on Facebook some of the same excerpts from Moxon's book I've posted here — just excerpts, no commentary of my own.
Immediately Facebook sent me a message that the material violated "community standards" and would probably be taken down if I didn't delete the posting.
I did so, because in my experience, those messages are followed by Facebook deleting what you've posted.

I've had similar experiences in the past months when I posted material from the folowing authors — again, just excerpts, no commentary of my own:
1. Ruth Ben-Ghiat
2. Christa Brown
In Ben-Ghiat's case, I know that many others had the same thing happen on Facebook, since she blogged about this, asking people to report if links to her articles on Facebook were taken down.
Social media can be every bit as morally bankrupt as corporate media.

@ganbatte I posted them with the author's name, title of book, publication information, page numbers, and a photo of the cover of the book.
