yay i didn't get ripped off! turns out they just packaged the memory up in a different box. i was worried since the other stuff probably would've given me shit. or downclocked itself and played along nicely. who knows. corsair makes good shit (Kensington, usually)purple0kosh:~$ free -mt total used free shared buff/cache available Mem: 32021 1529 28820 15 1672 30012 Swap: 18339 0 18339 Total: 50361 1529 47160
btw yeah up until 2024 ya boy purplz has been running 16GB at most on they's workstation. i refuse to be that techbro getting yelled at because their electron app requires half the planet's ram... -
@[email protected] the Centris is maxed out. however the 486 is where that memory came from.... pray i don't get back in to x86 gear...

Izzy :BlobhajTransPrideHeart::nonbinary_potion:replied to purple 👊✊💨 last edited by@purple honestly I found 16GB would've been Enough if it weren't for the games (RimWorld and KSP, specifically, which are modded to the gills)
now, servers, on the other hand
the database hungers for cache -

@[email protected] yep. 16GB was fine up until this year, really. stuff has finally gotten so bloated that swap was getting used for applications actively in use, though.
none of the games i play are memory bound. they're largely cpu cache bound... and that aint improving anytime soon...
