without nostalgia it's simply not a very good movie. scarcely anything actually happens, the homoerotic volleyball sequence is tame by today's standards, and you can watch Tom Cruise be charismatic in literally any other movie he's been in. and they're all probably more interesting. except for maybe Cocktail i can't imagine there's much happening there either.

i don't have much experience with this but i just kinda assume that Mike Love era Beach Boys stuff is perfectly suitable for a Mormon household, but the wild Brian Wilson stuff is probably on at least one list of banned/dangerous media.
