Respect to the ppl who dont want em and I think the impl should let you disable them, but I do just wanna talk about some stuff I see as a sidebar that can also be found from the original post but is not part of it or in reply to the person.

That, backfilling posts in a few places, and then when I get around to hacking the discover feed into user-custom algos I think will be most of what I want outside of moderation tooling for masto.

@jonny safety and moderation tooling are what I most want. Second most is making instance governance visible and legible from the outside, to newcomers.

I recently put out a demo project (@canary) to showcase what would be needed for per-user custom domains and in-place handle changes, but I wasn't aware someone was currently doing work on that front on Mastodon. I guess you're talking about https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/32724. Nice!
