Lately I've been evaluating two ways to save web articles to a reading list.
1. Obsidian + automation that converts HTML to markdown and saves them in a folder.
2. A self-hosted reading list called #Wallabag + a reader app that can interact with it.
The surprising conclusion: As much as I like #Obsidian for note taking, I can't stand it for reading long texts. Yes, I need that static feeling of non-editable equivalent to paper with large serif fonts.
Design matters. A lot.

@yuliyan I use omnivore as RIL Service and import it into Obsidian with the official plugin.
This way I have good reading experience and still can see my notes and highlights inside obsidian.Sync all your reading to Obsidian | Omnivore DocsGitHubDiscordTwitterMastodonGitHubDiscordTwitterMastodon

@yuliyan Have you tried Instapaper or somesuch?
It’d be interesting to hear your take on such read-later apps, esp. in comparison to the two options you have listed here.

@yuliyan Agree. I will use the Obsidian Web Clipper (which is a delight to use) to bring text into Obsidian from like a Wikipedia article. I love clipping text and highlighting in Obsidian, but reading on my mobile wasn’t as nice.
Makes me wonder if there’s a reader view, a custom theme, or a plugin that we can leverage for this kind of situation…

@knwlkr It is basically a styling issue. I have been looking into the css classes. The reader view has quite comfortably distinguished classes to work with. A custom css styling is totally possible. Ideally a good reader has buttons for variable font size. I added these via two different community plug-ins. Then I stopped tinkering and haven't tried improving it from there on. An advanced custom reader plug-in would be great actually.

@jochenwolters Instapaper delivers a good reading experience, which is what I was looking for. Wallabag + ReadKit deliver the same, if not better reading experience while being self-hosted. I'd rather pay money for a server that does a shitton of things for me, than a service like Instapaper. Maximal data ownership, maximal ease of use.
