@buffaloseven I've been interested in it. How good is it? (Matt from SUSD was tooo effusive)

@valen1 After my first play, I was quite split. Mechanically, I think it takes the best aspects of the Arkham Horror LCG and improves on them. Its mechanical structure is phenomenal and I think the years of experience in the space by the people building it shows.
I found the game they put into that structure to be unfocused, though. If you want to be motivated and driven by the story, I think you’ll be disappointed by a lack of consequence to your actions & limited rewards.

@valen1 Rewards are actually mainly received through side quests, not the main quest line, and they are specific cards, not generic XP, so you need to find a side quest, do it, and then maybe you get something worthwhile? Maybe not?
So if you approach it as a task list to get you things to build a bigger and better deck, I think it disappoints. They could easily construct that kind of game and fit it in the framework, but the core box is definitely not that kind of design.

@valen1 Taking a more…curious approach in my second playthrough and I’m enjoying it more. Just kind of exploring how I want and letting the story happen along the way. We’ll see if my greater enjoyment keeps up or it fizzles out eventually.
The mechanics are rock solid. They made an open world card game that really, genuinely works. It’s great. The art is gorgeous and the world and lore interesting. For me, it was just missing…something that gave a sense of agency in the world.

@valen1 I’m definitely sticking around and playing through the first expansion. Arkham Horror LCG had some very rough edges in its core box and expansions really took that game to a new level. The mechanical design of EBR is so solid the potential is there. And there are a few additions the expansion brings besides the campaign that I think will improve the overall gameplay.
I think the game shines best if you can approach it more like a TTRPG than an efficiency challenge.
