Range anxiety is frequently cited as one of the biggest turnoffs of electric vehicles.
Even as recent as 2021, the average range of an EV was just 217 miles (349 km), falling significantly short from the average gas car’s range of 413 miles (665 km).
Thankfully, as this infographic shows, EVs with over 300 miles of range are becoming more common.
Below are the top 10 EVs for 2023, ranked by their EPA combined driving range.

@janrosenow @GreenFire the other part with the range issue is the fact EVs can see dramatic swings (good or bad) in range either due to load on the car, use of the heating or A/C, or hot or cold weather. I believe this is chiefly because the Electric drivetrain is inherently more energy efficient (80% vs 20%) than internal combustion engines, and so the driver sees the difference in load on the vehicle. Whereas, in an ICE car, most of the energy always goes to waste in the engine as heat so we don’t see those swings and the heat itself is used for the cabin. (I say as an owner of a 170,000km EV Hyundai Kona)
This will all be solved in time as the technology on every part of electric vehicles improves, especially the batteries, but also things like reducing the weight of the cars as a whole, improving their aerodynamics, and ensuring all other mechanical systems are maximizing efficiency.
ICE vehicles have developed for 100 years and are at their maximum efficiency whereas we are still at the birth of the EV age.
There will be big gains, as well as small incremental ones. The more companies that commit to a 100% EV lineup, like Tesla (despite Musk’s depravity) and Hyundai, the faster this research will turn into innovation.

@chris @janrosenow
The companies will follow the consumers. The sooner more people start to realize that burning fossil fuels is immoral the faster EVs will be forced by market forces to become what the majority of people want in a car, truck and every type of vehicle. -

@GreenFire @janrosenow we need to help that along and move that faster by getting the fossil fuel lobby out of car CEO heads and governments, and off of the advertising airwaves.
