Is there some way to filter other languages on my home feed?
-
@tragicomedy I believe you go into preferences-other & you'll be able to select the languages you wish to appear (they will all currently be unticked). Depending on your client this may only be accessible from the web based desktop.
-
@emsquared it doesn't work for me on home feed
-
@tragicomedy Does it not? Ok well colour me educated. I know some of these language preferences are controlled by the admin settings of the various instances which doesn't really help you out. Sorry about that.
-
@emsquared I researched it a bit and actually, this is apparently a feature. That's dumb.
-
@emsquared here is a relevant github issue: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/11180
-
@tragicomedy It doesn't bother me personally but get that this should be an available option outside of moving to an instance that applies this at the instance level.
-
@tragicomedy I can see how it might be seen as more open (provided translate is always available) but, as I say can see how it would put a broader user base off.
-
@emsquared @tragicomedy Instance admin here. We don't control such settings. The filter in account settings is indeed intended to work only in local/global feeds. For the local feed, you need to select the desired languages for each followed account.

@austin @tragicomedy thanks for clarifying.
