Is anyone tracking the Brazilian Twitter exodus?
Brazil is such a unique country for social media usage. That's where Orkut had >70% of Brazilian Internet users when the rest of the world had abandoned the site.
It'd be fun if Orkut.com became a Mastodon instance!

@andresmh Not sure how to track an exodus, but here are some numbers on the influx!
Eugen Rochko (@[email protected])
Aug 10, 10 sign-ups from #Brazil. Aug 28, 152 sign-ups from Brazil. Today, 4.2k sign-ups from Brazil. Portuguese (Brazil) has already entered the list of top 8 active languages for the last 30 days.

Most Brazlians leaving Twitter seem to be going to Bluesky -- they've had a million signups in the last few days. Lula tweeted his Bluesky link along with other platforms, which set things into overdrive, although it had already started before that.
Threads is also benefitting but I saw a compare-and-contrast that Lula's posts on Bluesky are getting more traction than on Threads, which is suprising giving the relative size of the user bases.
