I switched back to learning (maintaining) French on Duolingo and they ranked me at B1. I’d say that’s surprisingly accurate, actually!
I only took 4 years back in school and try to stay exposed to French through media and such. I hope to be able to push my level a bit before I have to take my languages courses for my degree next fall.
It was a choice between French or German and I think I have to stick with my OG second language.

@britt how do you get the ranking in Duo?

@chris eventually they just asked me to do a placement test. I think it was because I was away for a year but I’m honestly unsure. It didn’t ask me for a placement either my German, so it is possible it’s something they do if you’re higher level and return after a while?
Now I’m curious…

@britt I would be really interested how it would rank me in French and Spanish, but especially French, as I have never used it for that language as I am able to fumble along just fine most of the time.

@Dunstable @chris brilliant! Great to know. Thanks for answering this as I was really unsure how to figure out why it popped up for me.

@britt @Dunstable I just opened it up (for the first time in a bit, lol)
And challenged a new level. After a couple exercises it said my score (I had to “learn more about my score”) to see the A1 designation.
Cool! Good to see it is using this standardized grading now. I will have to see what it says if I challenge French.
