The most depressing thing about the NDP’s capitulation on #carbontax to regressive Conservative reactionaries may be that it is just another example of parties and people claiming to be progressive — like Kamala Harris — until it affects their political ambitions. The environment is always the first issue to go* even though we -all- must live in this environment called Earth and we are screwing it up with catastrophic consequences.
*Democratic reform is always the second.

As the AP article suggests, it doesn't mean that the progressive party becomes the same as the regressive one. The choice -- if there is no other -- is still obvious for anyone who actually cares about the environment, but it dilutes the message in devastating ways that alienates people who care deeply, and rewards people who care for nothing but themselves. And most importantly, it further delays the imperative action needed to halt our precipitous slide into #climateCatastrophe that is killing people and destroying our way of life at this very moment.
Our politics continues to fail our planet, and thus, us.

@chris @NewsDesk @josie_osborne I reiterate:

@chris
Also high up on that list is children. The NDP have talked a good deal about advancing children's rights, but they don't use their power to advance them. -

@chris @NewsDesk @josie_osborne Very well put! You nailed it.

@505fred on that I disagree considering the very very large investments and programs they have pioneered both for childcare and for dental coverage across Canada.

@chris
The primary beneficiaries of childcare are not the children, but the parents. When you look at other, more important issues like compulsory school attendance or corporal punishment, they're silent, if not supporters. Whenever children's rights means limiting someone else's authority, they stop. -
