A possible reason that Canada doesn't have a train network... there are 4 times fewer inhabitants than in Japan... but comparing #Japan to #BritishColumbia ... BC alone is 3 times bigger than Japan in area

@jubiloMX Canada *did* have a very extensive train network but it has been left intirely in the hands of private enterprise that is focused only on long distance cross-border freight. Absolutely no mandate to retain community connections for local freight or local passenger service. It used to carry millions of people across the country, now almost nothing outside of Ontario/Quebec and those still much reduced.

@jubiloMX yep. It was faster 40 years ago! Perhaps if we had invested in all this time we would be able to have a service that people wouldn’t mind a longer trip compared to the insanity of flight.
