@Paulatics I would ask them why it even matters if I wear a mask. Or you could go up to them and cough very close to them and tell them you have covid. I think they'll get the point then. In a public place I just stare them down. Most will look away because most of them are cowards.

@Paulatics Anyone who claims to value freedom needs to let you wear a mask, just as he lets you choose what colour sweater or socks you wear. Your freedom to wear a mask hurts nobody.

@Paulatics @Jam123 Consider using the Report feature. Whether anything happens may depend a bit on your admins and the admins of the server of the person sending the message, but most admins take a pretty dim view of the kinds of messages you describe. If you want to just block those accounts and move on, that's your choice, but the way we keep things mostly civil around here is by using tools like blocking, defederation, etc.

@soaproot @Jam123 I blocked and muted. I didn’t report either, although I almost reported the person who wished me assassinated! But having read back through all their posts, I decided against it. (They were an American leftist; I think they were just honestly so taken aback that a “Senator” was trying to have a good faith conversation with them that they totally misinterpreted what I was trying to say. And I worry that a report from me, as a Senator, looks a bit like censorship,)

@jfmezei That is what I find so fascinating - that the sight of me in a mask is triggering for so many people, even people who aren’t convoy conservatives. I think it reminds all sorts of people that the risk isn’t over, when they just want things to return to normal.

Sadly there are mean nasty people in every community who gain pleasure or control by reducing others with their words.
