Don't you think it's about time to stop cloning corporate apps into the #Fediverse and maybe focusing on building something better?

Don't you think it's about time to stop cloning corporate apps into the #Fediverse and maybe focusing on building something better? I mean, it's a great exercise but it could be so much better.
Asking this to myself as well.
I don't feel I have the skills ready yet, but that would be a priority of mine at some point. Or I'd gladly collaborate on something original and out of the usual attention-exploitative patterns. #WebDev

@mauro there's plenty of software that have their own taste and don't mimic anything at all...Misskey comes to mind.

if someone made an IOS and Android app that is fully compatible with Sharkey, i'd pay for access.
Sharkey devs are looking for someone to re write the API
I think it would open a very decent option for fedi users. -

@BeAware in what way does misskey differ from a twitter-like social media? I might be out of the loop…

@mauro it has a LOT of things that twitter or masto doesn't have. Cloud storage, completely customizable UI, integrated games, character limit is 3000, etc. Not to mention programmers can create plugins to extend functionality.

@BeAware I'm talking of a completely different social media paradigm here, not features. Like how Hubzilla is different for example, or even Friendica. Something new.

@mauro those are Facebook-like...not exactly their own thing.
I'd say that you probably won't find *massive* innovation quite yet as the protocol itself is still heavily evolving.
There are platforms like Flipboard which is it's own thing and very unique, but its not built on AP, just integrating it.

@BeAware in fact I'm not asking for advice here, I'm just saying: let's invent it!

@mauro I am not a programmer, so I will be watching your career with great interest.
If you come up with anything innovative, I'll definitely be looking out.
