I mentioned the other day the long, tortured publishing history of the Harpoon series of naval wargames, which spanned 20 years and more publishers than you could shake a stick at.
That history took another turn today, when whoever is currently wearing the skin of legendary strategy game house MicroProse announced that they are going to be republishing Harpoon Classic '97, one of the better-selling entries in the series.
This is an extremely Harpoon announcement, because you can already buy Harpoon Classic '97 in a bundle from ANOTHER publisher, Matrix Games.

If you are curious what a *modern* Harpoon game would look like, the answer is Command: Modern Operations, which is also published by Matrix Games. It was developed by a bunch of Harpoon modders who got tired of Harpoon's publishing rights being split between three dozen companies that all hated each other.
CMO applies modern, high-resolution graphics while somehow still preserving Harpoon's absolutely inscrutable user interface completely intact.

You can buy Command: Modern Operations on Steam, but given the price and the aggressive Dad Game energy of the whole thing if you have any doubt at all you probably shouldn't

@jalefkowit Perhaps just try some easy single missions to experiment (like with a Seawolf against a 1960s sub) and the controls next to you. It's not really that complicated of a game. A lot of the action happens on the tactical map screen, where you direct the sub and fire weapons etc..

@anji I think my problem came from the opposite direction - I got turned off by micro-managing a single submarine. I wanted to command big sweeping fleets!
