@zens it’s a great annoying example of a technical term lazily deriving from ordinary English without regard for political consequences.
99% of the time it will boil down to survival-of-the-most-cautiously-horny, or something to that effect, but it’s a statistical effect over scales that no human mind will ever really comprehend. Any name that isn’t clearly statistics jargon will be misleading. -

@thorne condidering the man who coined it (not darwin as often thought, but cannot remember his name) was a eugenicist… i think the political consequences were deliberate. wikipedia has (or had, at the time i read it) an explanation of how it played out
