Hellboy: The Crooked Man means well. The cast does their best, but it's just not enough. It's too TV Movie. It has no grit, texture, real atmosphere. It's too bright. It's all sauce, no protein. There are good moments that show promise, but don't get there
The camera work and framing is really nice, and sets are well-done. There's some good wire work in it.

@tankgrrl I’m thinking a Hellboy animation would work really well, and push in the ways the films have been reluctant to do.

@octothorpe It's not well known, but there are two Hellboy animated features from 2006 (Sword of Storms) and 2007 (Blood and Iron). They're not bad And I wouldn't mind some more. That said, I still think live action can work, but it's definitely not easy.

@tankgrrl @octothorpe I genuinely enjoyed both of those.
One of the things about animation as a medium is that the makeup never looks fake, but the trade-off is the lizard hind brain 'kids stuff' association. -
