"Chinese diplomats and pro-China diaspora groups based in the United States organized demonstrations in San Francisco that harassed and silenced protesters opposed to Beijing’s policies, including through violence, during Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s visit to the city in November, a six-month investigation by The Washington Post shows."
I don't mess with local leftist groups in the city because I find them painfully naive on China, and this is why

EDIT: I think this is true of most major Chinatowns
something fun you can do: go to SF Chinatown, look up:
note which buildings have china flags and which ones have taiwan flags.
it's an even split.
that's why i find that local SF politicians who think of chinese americans as a single monolith are also painfully naive. they don't even speak the same languages, often!

@skinnylatte I obvs don't know, but I'd imagine those families probably 'get along', as well as any language differences permit?
-
@bytebro personally i'd go out of my way to avoid any overtly pro-china family members.
i don't mind speaking with people across different chinese languages. but that is a red line for me.
