At this point there is NO reason *not* to use it. The challenge I frequently encounter is convincing others to use it. The common responses are:
"I already use WhatsApp."
"I use Telegram."
"The government already knows everything about us, so what's the point? I have nothing to hide anyway." -
@peteorrall @SrRochardBunson One hundred percent this. The "everything's out there anyway" is a very common response from younger folks in particular.
Another problem I've encountered is that even when setting up Signal chats and getting people onboard, you run the risk of some doofus having Signal msgs forwarded to them as regular texts because checking more than one app is apparently just too hard for them.

It isn't just common among younger folks, but those in my age and older. I am in my early 40s and some of those people are not only older but work in InfoSec!
Let that sink in.
The real danger of the "I have nothing to hide" response is time. *Right now* you may not have anything to hide, but since the #american people decided to re-elect a criminal #fascist with a penchant for authoritarianism, that may change. And then you WILL have something to hide!

@peteorrall @jetsilver @SrRochardBunson considering signal must obey USA laws and now under a #fascist government isn't it dangerous? It is known USA enforce entities to open backdoors and whatnot without disclosing this to the public.

@xmppbrasil @jetsilver @SrRochardBunson
So which secure communication methods do you recommend, other than the postal service?

@peteorrall @jetsilver @SrRochardBunson
there is no easy convenient way to escape from US surveillance, we all saw what happened to Assange and Snowden.
#XMPP have signal cryptography and can be hosted outside the US. But I would first recommend reading about threat models.
@xmpp_providers gives a list of providers with several info data regarding every well known servers: https://providers.xmpp.net/
Our media keep us distracted with China while US is much worse while pretending to be better.
