Oh gods. SO MUCH THIS.
A decade ago, when Linux distros were even less developed than they are now, I'd complain about the problems with Linux and Linux worshiping friends would lose their shit instantly and deny that there were still major problems which needed to be dealt with.
It was my fault. I just didn't understand the divine rewards of Linux in all of its godly essence. Eh. Don't get me wrong, I like Linux but I'm not an acolyte. It has its own special problems.

@timberwraith I remember in the 1990s and early 2000s when Linux was supposed to have its big moment on the desktop and nobody cared because it was a half-baked product with poor hardware and software support.
While things have gotten incrementally better, it still feels like a work in progress instead of a finished product. I don't like Microsoft or Apple either. But I'm too old to fucking troubleshoot things now. I just want them to fucking work.

@gwynnion I totally understand that. That's just the thing about Linux and other open source software (but not all of it): if you aren't a person who enjoys tinkering and playing with software puzzles, it's going to be aggravating. I still like doing that sort of thing but a lot of people don't. And that's OK.

@[email protected] @[email protected] I even do like tinkering. Broke my Mac on several occassions over the years because I tried something out. :neofox_laugh_sweat:
But there is a difference between having the ability to tinker and being required to tinker to have basic stuff work. -
@orangelantern @timberwraith Heh. My home PC is a Mac running an unsupported version of Windows via Bootcamp with occasionally iffy hardware support.
That sentence by itself places me in the top 10% of users, at least.
So if I can't be bothered messing around with something, who can? LOL.

@gwynnion @orangelantern @timberwraith Guess that's one reason why @thelinuxEXP said a while ago that "Linux doesn't need [XY], it needs hardware." (As in "hardware vendors)
Using a device from places like Tuxedo, Slimbook, StarLabs, System76 etc. is - or can be - a beautiful experience. With them and an improving unified software store system like Flatpak (nobody talks about Snaps lol) as well as Valve's backing in regards to game compaitiblity… damn, good times ahead.
