DONATE! Donate big. This is a bloom of freedom, empowerment, and rejection of corporate control, surveillance, manipulation and cost.
Pixelfed servers are holding on, help appreciated.

@mastodonmigration is it possible to follow threads account on Pixelfed?
-
@Jared @mastodonmigration It’s mostly for image sharing, so not really applicable. And I expect federating with threads will not be encouraged.
-
@wendinoakland @mastodonmigration if they post a picture in a post it should show up in Pixelfed in the same way it does for a Mastdon account pic will show up in my Pixelfed
-
@Jared @mastodonmigration “They” you mean threads? The whole idea here is really to be disconnected from Meta. If you’re comfortable with their apps and terms of service, that’s a different matter.
-
@wendinoakland @mastodonmigration a person on threads
-
@Jared @mastodonmigration Yeah, no.

So then no. Nothing posted on Threads will show up on Pixelfed. Thanks Wendy.
Edit: Maybe Pixelfed federation with threads is instance dependent? Will try to find out more.

@mastodonmigration I can confirm pixelfed.au works well.

@mastodonmigration so tiktok dying people are looking at pixelfed as the new solution?

Not exactly. A few days ago Facebook made the mistake of blocking links to Pixelfed. This generated a 'Steisand Effect' response. This has also all exacerbated by a backlash against Mark Zuckerberg for his recent actions regarding moderation on Meta.

@mastodonmigration pixelfed.fr is also doing fine!

@mastodonmigration Those are not the concerns people have. The concerns they have are whether these lesser instances have any staying power, or are nerd hobby projects running off a raspberry pi they pulled from a junk drawer. They're worried about leaving to switch identities and whether that is complicated. They worried about migrating and losing all their pictures again. These are not small issues. They're among the biggest and federated services don't have many good answers right now.

I thought Pixelfed was just a photo sharing network. Can it replace any other functions of Facebook?
-
Pixelfed is more of an Instagram alternative.

@theaardvark @TekellJ @mastodonmigration my instance https://pixtagtam.social is running well, and will be open for registrations from time to time to keep it from getting bombarded.

@bllgvn @mastodonmigration @dansup the migration seems to be broken. I tried doing it when moving over from pixelfed.social to Pixey, I followed the steps, and my old account lost all followers and my new one didn't get them.
