The sudden spike in Bluesky users over the past week begs the question: should you choose one social media service to focus on or attempt to use several of them (similar to how most of us use several tv streaming services)?

The sudden spike in Bluesky users over the past week begs the question: should you choose one social media service to focus on or attempt to use several of them (similar to how most of us use several tv streaming services)? For me, Mastodon is and will continue to be my chosen network. But I am flirting with the idea of using Bluesky for my non-tech interests — my “fun” side, if you will (but I’m still a nerd). I wonder how others are approaching this? Are you a one-network person or polysocial?

@ricmac I tend not to make personal connections on Bluesky. That may be a function of having been around here longer, but I think it's more a function of volume - bsky is more of a firehose.

I am on many different social-media networks.
Including a number of different Fediverse accounts, Bluesky, Matrix, nostr, Lens, and Farcaster.
As well as a number of centralized ones (to keep in touch with those of haven't created an account on a decentralized network yet).

@ricmac Solidly polysocial here. Bluesky is where I let my theoretical hair down, and I’m trying to migrate my Threads following here because oh my God what a dumpster fire that is becoming.
-
@jaredwsmith you're trying to migrate your Threads following to Mastodon, or to Bluesky? It does seem like Meta has messed up...not that I trusted them to begin with
-
@ricmac Threads to Mastodon Some great progress on cross-compatibility with Bluesky but I am not yet interested in bridging the two.

@jaredwsmith the bridging is technically a nice solution, but it's a bit strange having what amounts to a clone. So I'm with you, keeping them separate for now.
