There’s an interesting discussion today between Alaistair Campbell and Rory Stewart where Campbell posits that Labour’s plan to get rid of the hereditary peers in the House of Lords could destroy the whole kudos attaching to the title ‘Lord’.

There’s an interesting discussion today between Alaistair Campbell and Rory Stewart where Campbell posits that Labour’s plan to get rid of the hereditary peers in the House of Lords could destroy the whole kudos attaching to the title ‘Lord’. The argument goes that getting rid of the hereditary peers would result in the Lords being even more obviously full of washed up politicos and helpers given their places merely as rewards for silence or services rendered. It would make them a mockery.

They’d need to get rid of the bishops too of course.

@christineburns A full and final separation of church and State seems like an excellent idea. Then there’s all those MPs who go to the morning prayers, simply so they can get a seat in House of Commons. That needs to stop also.
UK Upper Chamber should be modelled on something like the Seanad in Ireland, although that needs a few tweaks as well. It;s still far superior to House of Lords set up though. And #AbolishTheMonarchy I note there’s a rather lukewarm response to Chas & Cams current trip to Australia. -

@HarriettMB @christineburns Should we refer to Chas and Cams, as upper class chavs?

@christineburns And that's supposed to be a bad thing?
