If you want a replacement or "better" Twitter, depending on a single entity to make it happen will eventually end with you wanting another replacement in a few years.

I've had too many bad experiences with losing online communities because of dumb decisions that were made outside of the user base's control. I've learned that it's not an "if", it's a "when".

@quillmatiq I have some bad news for you about each Mastodon instance...
-
@cass That doesn't change anything about my statement, though. Whether it's an instance or the Mastodon project, I don't think we should solely depend on either. I'm enjoying using it now, and I hope it stays that way, but if that changes I'm not stuck to it forever.
-
@quillmatiq Ah, I understand now. I was reading it as an argument that Mastodon is better than Bluesky but that's now what you meant, I see

@[email protected] same, same. That's why I'm reluctant to build connections over at the other place (️). The Fediverse feels much much safer in this respect IMHO

@elena I agree! But a lot of my communities ended up there and I will always prioritize my people over a platform. Lord knows I'll be working hard to convince them to move though

@cass All good! It's hard to convey this kinda stuff in short-form, so thank you for helping me clarify ️
