I have been thinking about how the Fediverse doesn't lack amazing and smart and funny people, and for most people what it lacks is their friends.
Their friends are on some corporate billionaire owned social media, and they won't leave because their friends are there... it's a vicious cycle/circle. But it can be broken.

If you've ever moved to a new town, or started a new job, or gone through a breakup you know the pain of "starting over" and that starting over can be scary for people... but you can also meet new people, and make new friends, and discover new things, and that can be amazing.

Lately for some people the allure of "where my friends are" isn't enough to keep them on corporate billionaire owned social media, or at least they are fleeing it for other things, hopefully the Fediverse, but even Bluesky is better than Twitter or Meta or TikTok right now. Maybe the folks fleeing to Bluesky will see that get enshittified and eventually move to the Fediverse... We can hope.

@rasterweb the MVP of the software was built, but we still need to build the content and the larger community.

@jdavidnet Do that, please! I'm wondering if I should give the "threadiverse" another try. kbin sort of failed, mbin doesn't seem that far ahead... do I need to start using Lemmy? Is Lemmy still problematic?

I wouldn't touch or build anything with META. I see them as an antagonist/ hostile network.
Oddly, I mentally rank them lower than X. X is more hands-off but a more hostile population.
Bluesky is nice enough, but it's still algorithm-driven, and we have no direct control over the algorithm.
Mastodon is mostly algorithm-free, built on connections, hashtags, and time sort order.
My Bluesky account gets more engagement than Mastodon.

@jdavidnet Bluesky is either years (or months) away from enshittification so while many are flocking there to escape Twitter/X or Meta, it's just a matter of time before they need to flee Bluesky as well.
For some people, that's fine... it's a good time until it isn't. For me, I invested years & years into Twitter just to see it destroyed, and would prefer not to go through that again.
The Fediverse offers some protection from that.
And I can say that all Billionaires need to be destroyed.

@rasterweb @vmstan This is one of the downsides to the Fediverse. I hope it changes sometime.
