This article has a great rundown of how the deal went down and B.C. United went from official opposition after having held power under another name for 16 straight years at the turn of the century, to its leader that championed the name change from B.C. Liberals “"overseeing the dismantling of the party."
People are TALKING About it everywhere. It’s crazy!

@chris the BCU collapse really shows the danger of party membership being a pay to play private club. If the party faithful and elected officials aren’t paying enough attention, it’s really easy to steal the party out from under them.
I know a lot of Canadians take pride in not being partisans, but if we don’t want to see more inside deals like this, we should consider party membership, even if just as a defensive measure.

@chris not a fan of Kevin Failcon, but I'm pretty sure his actions to roll up that party without a vote in caucus is illegal

@chris It's good but I think the G&M got to the heart of it: #bcpoli
G&M: "BC’s corporate leaders, who once delivered millions of dollars annually to keep the province’s centre-right coalition party in power" applied "intense pressure" to "ensure there is only one party on the right to challenge the governing NDP.
We’re going to go with the Conservatives"Behind the BC United Party’s surprise move to sit this election out

“What I’m going to do is, I’m going to vote NDP. I don’t know about other Liberals,” said Mark Marrisen, a long-time organizer for the BC Liberals and BC United. “There’s no Liberal element to this coalition, so it’s not really a coalition. It’s the Conservative party.”The calls are coming from inside the house.
