I knew money has been tight over a WordPress' parent company, but oh wow.

@[email protected] dude could have let trust & safety handle that, but he made a public comment on it while taking a "break" from being the CEO... without board knowledge... he had to make an apology because the board went "What the FUCK". it was a nightmare to experience, but i'll admit it was a fucking hilarious temper tantrum he displayed of being all tough shit and then all of the sudden going "I will be back in May, I am still on break" after getting his ass reamed

@puppygirlhornypost2 That's just awful.

@[email protected] Did i mention he went on twitter to harass Avery? Like he pinged Avery saying "WHY ARE YOU LYING ABOUT YOUR TERMINATION HERE ARE ALL OF YOUR ALTS" listing out all of the accounts associated with her IP address... like it was bad bad. i wouldn't trust this guy at all, and i've been put off by wordpress ever since. I mean yeah prior i knew how wordpress plugins were notorious for security issues and how wordpress is a mediocre at best platform but this really sealed the deal because i do not want someone like that having any access to my data. Especially when he did an opt-out AI thing for all of tumblr that would feed your posts... you had to go to a special settings submenu to disable it and it was very much one of those sneaky things... fuck the guy.
-
@[email protected] Sorry if I come off as strong, I don't blame you for not knowing because this was kinda swept under the rug. I just wouldn't trust Automattic for shit nowadays.
-
@puppygirlhornypost2 Not at all, I really appreciate you sharing all this!

@paninid Hah, well, there's always a chance he might resign?
If not, https://ghost.org has been looking pretty good lately, with all that recent work towards ActivityPub support!

This whole thing is getting more ridiculous.
It's okay to use "WP" in your name, unless, as of today, it can lead people to think that it stands for WordPress, especially if your name is WP Engine.
https://web.archive.org/web/20240924024555/https://wordpressfoundation.org/trademark-policy/ vs https://web.archive.org/web/20240924114826/http://wordpressfoundation.org/trademark-policy/

@stefan Oh please.
People think "WP" stands for "WordPress" with literally every other plugin and service that uses it because...wait for it...it DOES.
The language is as clear as day about it not being covered by trademark and being able to use it "in any way you see fit". That means any way. Not some ways, or the ways that Matt likes.
Even so, somehow Matt thinks you can then protect what someone else *thinks* "WP" connotes in their mind. Good luck with that.

@joshuaiz Yeah, I'm really curious why WP Engine is being singled out here. Competition? Or is it personal?
I guess we'll find out more if/when the lawsuit goes through.
